NU Construction was awarded this JCT contract to remodel and refurbish the existing office areas at Low Mill, Ravensthorpe including the formation of a new mezzanine comprising of a bed showroom, directors offices and a large conference room, two tea points, minor internal strip out and adaptation of blockwork walls, formation of new main entrance, enclosing and improving the left-hand side of the office building and infilling a number of door openings to suit the proposed plan.
Major fire protection work was undertaken, completed with high specification suspended ceilings with specialised lighting. The electric mains, boards and points were newly installed. A new full heating and cooling system were installed. The project also included external works to the main elevation which included cladding and window renewal and refurbishment, through coloured rendering along with new lighting and signage.
The site has two vehicle entrances and NU were requested to largely confine their site compound and site entrance to Havelock Street. The entrance into the main delivery yard and loading docks is busy with upwards of 20 HGV movements a day with vehicles turning and reversing to the loading dock as well as forklift units similarly servicing vehicles within the yard.
As the site remained live throughout the works, close liaison with Jay Be Beds was made on a day-to-day basis to ensure that they were not adversely affected by the works.
Nu are led by an experienced and competent senior team who involve eliminating problems on a non-confrontational and non-contractual basis. Their attitude to recognising the importance of good management with regards to Health & safety is very evident.
